Industry Practice: Legal + Economic Frameworks

Legal/Economic considerations:
- Consider outside factors for designs AKA, do not create designs that look a lot like real people without consent.
Break Down Studios has decided to go with a stylised design/cartoonish? Therefore designs will not relate to real life counterparts.

Assets to protect:
- Character Designs
- Storyline

Technical Requirements for Assets in Pen'Py

Tags: Tags are important in defining the layout and substance of elements on a webpage.
composed of angle brackets: ("<" ">") typically in pairs.
They are opening and closing tags that act as the commencement of an element and the conclusion.

Attribute: An attribute causes additional particulars that can be appended to a HTML tag. These attributes are inserted within the opening tag of the element and generally comprise a name and a value. The name and value are separated by an equals sign (“=”) and are enclosed in either double or single quotation marks.

Statements:
The statement 'show' can be used to make a character asset appear.

  • What is the current state of the UK Games Industry, describe the UK Games jobs market and your aspirations for employment within that market.

The UK games industry remains a major creative and economic force, valued at £7.63 billion in 2024, though this marked a slight decline of 1.8% from the previous year. Mobile gaming showed growth, but hardware sales dropped by over 5%, reflecting global economic pressures.
In terms of employment, the sector still shows resilience, with 28,516 people working in game development as of May 2024. However, growth has slowed to 4.8%, the lowest in over a decade.
The jobs market has tightened, with just over 1,000 roles advertised in early 2024, and many companies turning to fixed-term and freelance contracts instead of permanent hires. Major studios like Axis Studios and Surgent Studios have experienced layoffs, showing that even established names are not immune to industry-wide cutbacks.

As for my own personal aspirations, I aim to venture into the games industry as a 2D character/environmental artist. However, I am more than aware of the other pathways into the games industry so I am much more open to other features such as Story Boarding, 3D Modelling. However, 2D is my preferred pathway.
